The 4th gen Honda Fit was spied in Europe riding on the same platform that will undoubtedly underpin the Honda HR-V.

Honda Fit and HR-V sales have taken a hit thanks to the decreasing popularity of small cars and even smaller CUVs in general but they still sell well in the United States. Honda won’t let on just how important this new generation Honda Fit is for sales but it’s a big deal. As per Motor Trend on their latest sighting from the hotshot spy photographers somewhere in Europe from earlier today (Sept. 26,2018) Honda is out testing the 2020 Honda Fit and it’s looking a bit larger and slightly different looking than this year’s offering. Check out exclusive photos of this egg-shaped best seller from Honda by following the link above.

Honda did its best to keep the third generation Honda Fit looking as fresh as ever with a mid-cycle refresh last year. But, as competition picks up from smaller, arguably more efficient small hatches from the likes of the Ford Fiesta, Nissan Versa Note, and the Toyota Yaris five-door, Honda is pulling out all the stops in delivering a revolutionary new Honda Fit.

As you can see in the spy photos, this Fit retains its overall defining shape they’ve we’ve come to know and love from Honda. Its front end, however, is drastically different and much more filled out, perhaps to keep it in line with the rest of the Honda lineup. The same can be said for the rear, much more filled out and, dare I say, slightly larger than last years. Perhaps Honda is ekeing out a couple more cu. feet of cargo space to be class-leading in MY 2020.

As mentioned, whatever this mystery Fit is riding on will underpin the new HR-V as well, also a decent seller for Honda’s portfolio. Motor Trend says that there’ll be a hybrid and EV variant of the Fit while my source says something completely different.

Expect Honda to stuff the little Fit with SOME form of forced induction, be it the 1.0T in the European Civic or the 1.5T detuned Civic engine we have here. Yes, there’ll also be a 2-motor HEV version of the Fit as and presumably an all-electric Fit to the tune of 186 miles of range on a single charge. The same goes for the HR-V sans an all-electric version.

This new Fit is going to be pulling triple duty as a gas, hybrid, and EV offering, appealing to Honda’s demo, whatever they feel like. Pricing will be within earshot of one another depending on what variant you get.

The 2020 Honda Fit is shaping up to be quite the jack of all trades, the same as it ever was.
