This Japanese fabricator with an engineering background just took a Sawzall and angle grinder to this new Suzuki Jimny, creating arguably the first Jimny pickup with the world’s shortest bed.

The Suzuki Jimny is like the Jeep Wrangler of Japan, mostly an analog experience that’s light on the wallet yet still plenty capable and able to shame offroaders and builds that cost three times as much. As such, almost all car guys love the Suzuki Jimny whether they can actually buy one or not, which lends to its customizability. But this is something quite different. According to SS Magazine editor and Suzuki Jimny enthusiast Yukara Nakaido on his post earlier last week (Oct. 4, 2018) he’s come across a Jimny owner who took a brand new 2018 Suzuki Jimny and completely hacked off half the roof and trunk making a pickup of sorts. Some might say it’s the world’s smallest pickup. Check out photos of this tiny custom Jimny below!

Since his photo shoot post went up, it’s only been shared 86 times but garnered more than 312 likes and a handful of comments praising the creator Jun Shimizu on his handicraft.

Mr. Jun Shimizu, the owner of this particular Jimny, from the translation, is a member of the local Jimny Club of Japan, an unofficial club for Jimny owners. As you can see in this photo, here’s evidence of Jun cutting up the rear bed.

And here’s what the Suzuki Jimny looks like with its rear end chopped off.

According to Yukata who actually took the better-looking photos and took an up-close view of this Jimny, it hasn’t been fully tested but it looks like this Jimny pickup is definitely lighter by a whole 200 pounds.

Although the Jimny looks small, it weighs a lot for its size with base Jimnys coming in at 2358 pounds. With this one being below 2,000 pounds, easily, Yukata reports that the rear end is a lot lighter and bounces up and down, considerably. Yutaka notes that acceleration, at the very least, is improved. Keen eyes will notice that the rear is slightly higher than a stock Jimny by 15 mm.

A lighter weight should bode well for this Jimny’s off-road ability. As far as looks go, something about it looks proportionally off. Nevertheless, it doesn’t look all that bad.

Hopefully, this Jimny owner takes it off-road to test it out even further. If it’s more capable than before with less weight, it’s a win in my book.
