People playing FR Legends are learning the inconvenient truth of the tuning capabilities of the Toyota AE86 Trueno in real life thanks to the 100 percent accuracy of this game.

Full disclosure, because FR Legends isn’t even on Android, I haven’t played this amazing drift video game yet but I’ve been following along on social media and the way this game is true to real life drifting has me hankering to play this amazing game even more! It looks like a lot of people playing the game were upset that you can’t tune the rear camber on the AE86, one of the most popular drift platforms on the game and in real life. Turns out there’s a very simple reason for this. As per the official FR Legends Game account on Instagram and their update earlier this week (Oct. 13,2018) it’s because you can’t tune rear camber in real life either. Yup, this game is that true to real life. Check out one of the developer’s rebuttals below.

In real life and in video games, from my cursory knowledge of drifting, there are some simple truths that make a car easier to drift. While you may hate the sight of negative camber on cars, they do have a purpose, even more so in the motorsport of drifting. When a tire has negative camber, while there is less tire contact with the ground, this means that you have less lateral grip and can initiate drifts a lot more easily. More negative camber also helps when transitioning between drifts, you’re able to transition faster. That’s why people playing with the AE86 are pestering the developer to throw in some negative camber in the rear of these Trueno’s but it’s a non-starter because of facts.

People keep asking me why they can’t change the AE86’s rear camber.
The reason is in real life the AE86 has “a four-link live axle with coil springs for the rear ”(from wiki).

Some AE86’s come stock with a solid rear axle and offer no camber or toe adjustments whatsoever.

The developer could’ve made the AE86 have camber adjustability but the authenticity of the game would’ve suffered. It’s little details like this, despite the fun nature of the game, that have me itching to play this game even more.

On a side note, one of the main developers is recovering from an operation so no rush to get it on Android. Also, people shouldn’t hound them online to do so.

Thanks, FR Legends!
