This GM tuner has some beef with Hennessey Performance and he’s got $2,500 for any HPE800 owner who just shows up to race him.

Most people are shocked at the prices Hennessey Performance charges for their upgrade packages. For example, this HPE800 package for the Cadillac Escalade, the specific package this loud Instagram man mainly has his beef with, costs an additional $55,000 on top of the regular price of an Escalade, not exactly chump change. As per @NorCal_SS on his Instagram post earlier this week (Oct. 16,2018) he’s so upset that Hennessey Performance is “ripping off” so many customers he wants to race any HPE800 Cadillac owner just to prove a point, that his cheaper setup is as fast, if not faster. Anyone who shows up and lays down a decent race instantly gets $2,500.

Here’s his Instagram post below.

As you can see in his post, he’s also rocking a late model Escalade although his wheel and tire setup isn’t exactly ready for a drag race but that’s beyond the point. Supposedly he’s called out Hennessey Performance multiple times, by tagging him in his posts, asking for a heads up drag race between his Escalade, which has a similar setup as the HPE800 Escalade, and one of Hennessey Performance’s shop vehicles boasting said setup. But, do you really think John Hennessey’s going to fly out from Sealy, TX and transport a customer’s vehicle just to prove a point? Not likely.

Here’s a shot of his setup.

So far, no one has responded with a legitimate race.

I can see how @NorCal_SS is upset and feels like people are getting ripped off. For one, he’s using the same supercharger system that Hennessey Performance is using. A quick search on Google reveals that anyone with around $5000 can buy a 2.9L GM specific supercharger system of their own.

Here’s the thing, Hennessey may be charging a lot more but you’re also getting a laundry list of additional upgrades not standard on the Whipple supercharger kit. Add on to that, you’re getting a custom tune for your specific application. And, when you’re done, you get Hennessey’s 1 year/ 12,000-mile warranty should anything happen.

Hennessey Performance is a big brand, has a reputation (good or bad), seems a heck of a lot more trustworthy than a loud shouty man with 12,000 followers on Instagram, and has a comprehensive build sheet.

It’s probably not worth $55,000, but, for an owner to roll into a Hennessey Performance approved shop, drop a stack of cash, and walk out a few days later with an 800 HP Escalade, ya, it’s worth it.
