So, you’ve just installed your new cold air intake and want to know how much power it makes on the butt dyno. OK, give it the beans, but not “118 MPH give it the beans.”

You’ve got to love the honesty and almost believable tone of this car enthusiast caught going way above the speed limit in Gwinnett County, Georgia. As per WSBTV reporter Tony Thomas on his report on this speedster going above and beyond earlier this week (Nov. 13, 2018) this hoon had the best reason for driving close to three times more the legal limit, he was testing car parts.

Check out the hilarious exchange between him and police below.

New Ford Explorer pursuit-rated police vehicles top out close to 118 MPH so you can imagine the absolute adrenaline rush that it must’ve been for this police officer to clock someone going 118 MPH then proceed to give chase for however long it took to reel him in.

It’s hard to make out in the video but other news outlets report that this guy was driving a 2007 BMW of some sort, probably a 3-series, and admitted to police that he had just finished wrapping up a parts install on his car and wanted to test it out.

But, as police point out, there really is no excuse for anyone to be going that fast on public roads. At those speeds, there are some major forces at play and one wrong maneuver from the driver spells disaster for him, his passenger, and for anyone that might’ve gotten in his way.

If you’re going to test out new car parts, there’s nothing in the DMV handbook that says you can’t, you just have to keep it under legal speed limits. A stab to highway speeds off an off-ramp comes to mind.

Speeding in Georgia carries an up to $1,000 fine, points on your record and possible jail time depending on the severity.

No word on what happened to this driver but I’d reckon he got to keep his car and will be served a hefty fine at the very least.
