You’d think that GM would put their best on display at this Ontario Auto Show but this 2019 Chevrolet Blazer was anything but their best.

If you’re a car manufacturer at an auto show, you’re going to put your best foot forward even if that means putting a couple of ringers out on display with an extra coat of carnauba wax. But according to Eva Guta in a Facebook post she shared earlier this week (Feb. 18, 2019) Chevrolet brought out their absolute worst with this 2019 Chevrolet Blazer Premier at the annual Canadian International Auto show. How this particular Blazer even got past quality control is beyond me. It’s so bad they make Teslas look like Bentley’s.

Check out the post for yourself below. And if for some reason the post below isn’t showing here’s a mirror.

GM, like any car company, has several manufacturing facilities around the world to take advantage of cheap labor and an efficient supply chain. In addition, it probably behooves a car company to build a car close to where they’re going to sell it. For the Chevrolet Blazer, whose main market is North America, it’s built at their GM Mexico plant in the city of Coahuila (about a three-hour drive from Laredo, TX)

Eva’s main points are that, since GM pays their workers so low, about $2.25 an hour according to the Financial Post, there’s no incentive to put make sure everything’s 100 percent going down the line. Good enough is good enough.

Going through the photos, the defects are horrendous. Body panel gaps are wide and inconsistent. Some of the body panels do not line up, height-wise, with body panels right next to them. Several of the plastic trim pieces show scuffing (remember, this is a brand new vehicle.) Some edge pieces lack paint with pieces of paint actually falling off. The paint job, overall, is sub-par with paint pooling on certain spots. And in one photo, there’s a large visible light spot where paint obviously didn’t spray correctly, sprayed over with clear coat.

The Blazer has a starting MSRP of $28,800 but this one shown is a Premier model, commanding $55,885. That’s dangerously close to BMW X5 and Lexus RX territory.

To the average show-goer, they probably didn’t notice but to someone who actually considers this car as an option, surely they’d scrutinize their purchase and point out such embarrassing details.

It’s simple. GM, you need to do better and make sure your cars are coming off the line in mint condition.

And if you’re considering a Blazer for yourself at a dealership, you’d better go over it with a fine-toothed comb. You don’t want to be financing a lemon.
