This holier-than-thou Toyota Prius driver filmed allegedly stopping and slowing to a snail’s pace on a beautiful Sunday drive is why we give a bad name to Prius drivers.

This MG roadster owner in Southern California was having a perfectly fine Sunday morning drive earlier this weekend (Mar. 27, 2019) when he caught up to a Toyota Prius driver who not only allegedly stopped but even slowed down a bit. In a video captured on the MG owner’s phone, he was able to catch the Prius driver slowing to a snail’s crawl as he made his way through Stunt Road, just a stone’s throw from Mulholland Drive in Malibu, California. Check out the infuriating video for yourself below.

Sundays in Southern California usually means taking car covers off your weekend toys and giving them a good thrashing in and around the beautiful hillsides of Greater Los Angeles. That also means you’ll be sharing the road with the general public. While the Prius is a perfectly fine vehicle to drive on Canyon roads, motorists in something more low-slung and suited to carving canyons often take these normally pedestrian speed roads at a slightly faster clip than your average driver. It’s not all that uncommon to see groups of fast drivers on any given day on these roads.

You can see in the video this Prius is actively trying to get a rise out of the MG driver because you can clearly see his brake lights pulse on and off on a perfectly normal stretch of road.

While the CVC is pretty clear that slow-moving cars that have accumulated five or more cars behind them should pull over to let them pass when safe, its also common sense that if there are faster cars behind you, the last thing you want to do is to slow down even more, which is what this Prius is doing.

The way I see it, the Prius driver should’ve accelerated to a speed he or she is comfortable to drive at and, if there are only four or fewer cars behind them, so be it. The MG Roadster driver also could’ve just pulled over, waited for a bit, and then continued on, but that’s a less popular option. Slowing down and allegedly stopping just aggravates the situation for everyone.

Driving is a privilege, not a right, people. Share the road, be courteous, and don’t be jerks to each other.
