If you’re wondering why Elon Musk’s profile picture is a white ram right now, read on.

Earlier this week (Apr. 18,2019) Elon Musk surprised a lot of his followers by changing his profile picture to a very large, and fluffy white ram. Elon Musk responded to a tweet from MIT’s technology review showing off the Stratolaunch, the twin-fuselage plane powered by six jet engines by saying “I’m an absolute unit, too.” with a photo attached of a white ram that gained popularity about a year ago online. Check out the weird twitter exchange below.

The Museum of English Rural life in Reading, Berkshire, England UK gained popularity last year for tweeting out a photo of said ram above with their tweet taking on a life of its own.

As you can see, the tweet from @TheMERL has been RT’d more than 31,000 times and liked 112,000 times. I’m presuming, around this time, that white ram became synonymous for the word “Unit.”

According to Urban Dictionary, a unit is “A person or object, who is large in the sense nothing can get in their way.”

I, personally, started seeing the word “unit” used in a sort of wholesome way to describe large animals, particularly cats or very large dogs.

It’s noteworthy that the word “unit” is never meant to be used to describe a person, that would just be wrong. Animals can’t help but be units if they’re overfed or they’re naturally large for their breed.

Anyways, it looks like The Museum of English Rural Life also joined in on the fun and changed their profile picture to Elon Musk.

@TheMerl, knowing how fleeting social media fame is when it comes to fire tweets, jumped on this opportunity pretty quickly so kudos to them.

As to the “why” did Elon Musk change his profile photo, like a lot of his tweets that aren’t directly about cars or where he’s addressing something serious, Musk is just having fun. Why not change your profile photo to a sheep, ram, or other piece of rural life?

The series of tweets afterwards pretty much tells the rest of the story. The man’s just having fun.

Honestly, I hope this evolves into something even more wholesome, I don’t know. Perhaps Musk will commemorate this unit of a Ram with some sort of easter egg, who knows.
