This Honda Civic in Oklahoma City really lost to literally one horsepower.

Some Honda Civic owner in Oklahoma City, OK took a giant L earlier last weekend (July 6, 2019) when, just for fun, he lined up against his buddy on a horse to settle the age-old question, whose faster, a Civic or a horse? Well, the horse put the beat down on that single cam Civic and there’s a hilarious video as proof.

Check out that video below.

The funniest part for me has is how that horse launches off the line like it has some sort of launch control.

On the surface, yes, the horse does beat the Honda Civic quite definitively at something like a 50-meter drag race.  It’s actually quite humorous to see a car lose to an animal like this given how technically advanced cars are.

But, when you look at the tail of the tape and the why, I reckon this horse can beat all sorts of cars at the same distance as long as they aren’t electric cars.

A Honda Civic weighs in around 2,200 pounds without a driver and can put down, at best, probably 100 WHP and about the same amount of lb-ft if this is the D16Y8 with 127 HP at the crank.

The horse, however, probably weighs in around 1,200 pounds without a rider. Some estimates give the horse a power rating of around 30 HP at full sprint. As for torque, horses are known to pull massive amounts of weight, in the case of draft horses, over 10 times their weight from a dead stop so, torque figures are high.

Then, there’s the case of traction. That Honda Civic didn’t have a chance against an animal that technically has infinite “gearing” and can exert all its torque to the ground almost instantaneously. Before that Civic was even in its powerband, the horse already took off, literally taking that Civic to Gapplebees.

So, ya, make jokes about a horse beating a Honda Civic but like I mentioned, this horse probably can beat some higher horsepower cars well above a lowly Civic.

What do you think? Can a horse out-drag a V6 Mustang at the same distance? Let me know in the comments below.
