NorCal based pro racing driver Tyler McQuarrie donated a full-sized motorhome to an Oakland family of five whom desperately needed a new home.

When Pro racing driver Tyler McQuarrie listed his 1983 Fleetwood PACE ARROW for sale on Craigslist, McQuarrie was optimistic that he’d get a couple of thousand out of what was presumably just taking up space on his property. Little did McQuarrie know that he wouldn’t get a dime out of the deal he’d shake on, he’d be changing a family’s life that, as mentioned, was in need of a new home.

I put our 1983 Pace Arrow RV up for sale on Craigslist a few days ago. I got over 25 emails in just a few hours and some even started to offer over asking price.

One family from Oakland with 3 kids wanted to buy it to live in permanently. I decided to give it to them for FREE! They came to get it with their 3 kids and they were picking out their beds. It was pretty sad but felt so good to help them out and shows you how hard it is to survive in the Bay Area. Great lesson for my kids to see how fortunate they are and how it’s important to help out others in need. #giveback #helpothersinneed

You’d think that, at the very least, a family on tough times can find an apartment in Oakland. But anyone whose attempted to find a semi-permanent housing situation in the Bay Area knows that getting a place to rent large enough to raise a family of five hovers in the neighborhood of several thousand a month.

I can only assume that’s the case with this family. While jobs in the Bay Area pay OK, it’s dealing with a family’s most basic needs, like shelter and food, that start to become an issue because, well, it’s expensive to live there.

A quick search on RVTrader reveals that these types of RV’s go for around $5,000 in good condition. With sleeping capacity for six, two bedrooms, hot water, and AC capabilities dare I say this RV might be better than some apartments for rent around Oakland.

While an RV is not an ideal living space, what Tyler’s given that family is a chance to make it. What money they would’ve put into ridiculous rent they can save up for something more permanent.

Maintenince and essentials like oil changes, gas for the engine, and repairs pale in comparison to monthly rent in Northern California.

Thanks, Tyler, for being a decent human being for this family and giving them something that they’ll never forget.
