Well, this is one way to make consistent tandems when drifting?

It’s the off-season for drifting and it seems the boys from Worthouse are putting that time to good use. Piotr Wiecek and James Deane literally welded two BMW E46’s together and took their creation out for a day of testing.

Check out their build process and how their testing went below.

Piotr hinted at their upcoming shenanigans in an Instagram post earlier in November. I remember seeing his post and thinking to myself, “No way they’re going to pull that off” but they’ve done it.

They don’t mention the exact BMW E46’s they use but Piotr says one has 170 HP and the other has 190 HP so presumably we have a 323i and 328i.

Putting the BMWs together sounds sketchy but the process is straightforward. Any wheels, tires, suspension, and body panels are removed and steel bars welded in the front and rear to hold the two cars together. Eyeballing is as good as it gets to ensure both cars are somewhat level.

To make these proper drift machines, they install hydraulic hand brakes in both cars to initiate drifts.

Between the two cars, they both share engines but only have four tires on the ground with half the steering control and effort doled out between two drivers, it’s either a recipe for disaster or pure tandem gold.

The results speak for themselves.

Enjoy some gifs of what they pulled off.

The learning curve for this unique tandem machine is steep but these are seasoned drifters, literally the best in the world (ranked first and fourth in Formula D) so they catch on pretty quickly.

After a quick session initiating drift donuts on the skidpad they take it out onto the open tarmac for tandems. It’s slow goings in the beginning but they catch on pretty well.

Surprisingly, all the welds hold up, the only limiting factor is tires. Since each tire has to carry more load, they shred quickly.

Keep an eye on this channel as the Drift season is months away and I’m sure they’ve got plenty of shenanigans up their sleeve.

If you’re wondering rumor has it Team Worthouse will return to FD in 2020, some say in BMW Eurofighters.
