Minty first gen Ranger sport is a rad truck for the modern era.

As the years roll by, it’s amazing to see these one-owner work horses maintained as showpieces coming out of the woodworks. Case in point, this minty 1992 Ford Ranger Sport with less than 10,000 miles on the odometer, 9,850 miles to be exact. Ford Ranger Sport owner Vern Kreckl posted up his pride and joy earlier today on Unappreciated Survivors and it’s so rad that it deserves a couple of words.

1992 was a big year for Ford, it was the 75th anniversary of Ford Trucks, the bread and butter of Ford’s bottom line. To celebrate across their lineup, at least for the Ranger Sport, this meant a unique side graphics package that turned the Ford Ranger Sport from Work Truck to Rad Truck.

The Sport model was the closest you could get to a Ranger custom without breaking the bank. Available in 4×2, 4×4, and and long wheelbases, “Sport also added power steering, a tachometer, rear step bumper, an AM Stero with digital clock or an AM/FM Stero with cassette player and aluminum wheels.”

When asked why he kept it so many low miles Vern says he just “bought it to keep and enjoy on nice days.” Since 1992, that’s roughly 360 miles a year. I assume this Ranger’s never seen a long trip.

The exterior and interior definitely live up to that mileage as there are no signs of wear and tear, it’s like new.

A couple of people commented on the Wilderness ATII tires but, according to Vern, he’s had these checked personally and the ATIIs aren’t included in that infamous Firestone Recall.

Firestone tires of that age didn’t have the best reputation but if Vern never drives it too far, I don’t see the danger of keeping the original rubber on the road, especially when it’s probably garaged and kept out of the sun.

That graphics package is the real icing on the cake, tying together an overall great little truck.

Although someone will bemoan the low mileage and how it should be driven more, it’s not like this is a Ferrari or anything. It’s a truck.

And the way these rad trucks are selling, although he probably never will sell this Ranger Sport, the amoutn of potential buyers hungry for these rad rides only grows as time goes on.
