Official word came from NASCAR over their social media channels and during a small press conference announcing that Ryan Newman is alive and recovering after a crash on the last lap of the Daytona 500. Here’s their official tweet below.

Following this bit of good news, our President tweeted out his well wishes and prayers for Ryan Newman and his family.

As an unfortunate reminder of what happened, here’s the final lap where Ryan’s car flipped. Thankfully, years of development in driver safety for both car and driver increased Ryan’s survival chances, more so today than ever before.
