This pursuit Interceptor caught some serious air

If you’re going to be hitting triple digit speeds, chasing after a perp, you’d better know the streets like the back of your hand. According to On Scene TV earlier this weekend, they captured the moment a San Bernardino Deputy’s Ford Explorer hit a dip in an intersection well above the speed limit launching him into the air for over a second before he landed, rolled, and crashed into a parked truck.

Check out the amazing bit of video below.

03.01.2020 | 8:20 PM | SAN BERNARDINO – A wild crash caught on camera shows a patrol vehicle launching into the air before overturning onto a truck, Sunday evening. The pursuit started when deputies attempted to stop blue sedan for a traffic infraction shortly after 8:00 PM. The driver of the sedan failed to yield prompting a high-speed pursuit through city streets. While chasing the driver a deputy in a marked patrol vehicle struck a dip and was launched into the air causing the vehicle to roll multiple times before coming to rest on top of a parked pickup truck. Authorities terminated the pursuit to attend to the deputy but he was not seriously injured. The suspect was able to escape but is still being sought by law enforcement

As per Fox 11 news, another deputy attempted to stop a suspect about a mile away in Loma Linda. After that suspect failed to stop, police started a high-speed pursuit through San Bernardino.

Another deputy, the one seen in the video, responded to the initial chase to assist the initial arresting officer in their pursuit. But, as the video shows, he didn’t get far.

The original chase was called off as soon as other police got word there was a deputy in need following his solo crash.

Thankfully, no one was hurt and the deputy managed to escape from his crash unscathed.

According to one commenter in the Instagram video above,

He should’ve known every intersection in SB has dips lol

Although silly, I think there’s a bit of truth in that statement. 5th. and Sunnyside is a major SB intersection. If I was a police officer on patrol, I would get to know each and every road undulation, bump, dip, oversized pothole, and road anomaly rather quickly.

Perhaps if this officer was more well versed on his city’s street level topography, he could’ve slowed just a smidge to avoid launching into the air ala Dukes of Hazard.
