Powerful cars, hundreds of people, and plenty of smoke, it looked like any ordinary weekend in East Oakland despite orders to shelter in place.

It’s only been eleven days since California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statewide shelter in place but according to several videos and photos that popped up from an East Oakland sideshow earlier this weekend, you’d think the pandemic was over and everyone was celebrating. To make matters worse, according to comments on several of these posts, at least one person ended up dead, no details given.

Check out a handful of the most popular videos and photos making the rounds below.

As you can see in the videos and photos, this looks to be one of the larger sideshows. Presumably, word got out on social media earlier in the day where and when everyone should show up. Being cooped up in your homes for more than a week, you can imagine some of these sideshow enthusiasts were itching to warm up their tires and head over as quick as they could.

In the last video you can see one sideshow participant running to his car as police ran by him, a CHP helicopter flying overhead.

There were no reports of cars getting impounded or people being detained. It seems police were content with people just leaving to their respected homes.

Sideshow participation can results in a 30-day impound which can cost thousands when you attempt to retrieve your car weeks later.

AB410, a bill that aimed to define specific fines and jail time for sideshows, did not pass earlier this year, dying in committee.

This sideshow shutdown comes off the heels of reports that Los Angeles Police shutdown a birthday party for a one-year-old girl upsetting dozens of party goers calling their actions unnecessary.

The importance of social distancing, only going out for essential items and activities, and thinking about the greater good with your actions has been discussed ad nauseam and reinforced by state, county and city-level orders to “Shelter in place.”

Despite that constant hammering from social media and in public to heed these warnings to stop the spread and flatten the curve, people are ignorant and think rules and consequences do not apply to them.

It’s mob rule and mob think, pure and simple.

New projections have California and the rest of the United States in for the worst these next few weeks. Sadly, only when it hits too close to home or affects them personally, will truth triumph over ignorance.

You can’t get mad at these people, they don’t know any better. Just try your best to avoid them and anything contrary to the greater good.
