Odometer reading: 7 miles.

Maryland resident Shahzaib Malik shared several photos and a walk around video of a 2020 BMW M5 crashed into a pole. According to Shahziab, this BMW M5 owner didn’t even drive one whole mile before a car sideswiped him, causing him to lose control, careening into a nearby power pole.

Check out the gut-wrenching photos including a video for yourself below.

Shahziab didn’t provide any details about the crash but, a closer inspection of the crash location on Google Maps and you can sort of make out what happened.

This BMW M5 crashed on US Route 40 A.K.A. the Baltimore National Pike in Cantonsville, Maryland near Rolling Rd. Close to the pole where this BMW careened into there’s a center turn lane that crosses traffic. I can only assume a car tried to make it across before the BMW M5 came but timed his turn wrong and clipped the M5’s side panel causing him to lose control.

In his walk-around video, you can see the extent of the damage, the entire front end of this M5 sedan demolished. But, as far as modern safety is concerned, this car did everything it could to protect its occupants including deploying all air bags and keeping the passenger cell intact. Then again, that’s the least I could expect from a six-figure car.

BMW of Catonsville, the dealership where this M5 probably came from, is less than a mile away.

What makes this crash even harder to look at is the kind of car the BMW M5 is, this super sedan is literally a super car dressed in a tuxedo with four doors. Underneath the hood is a twin-turbo 4.4L V8 with 600 HP and a biblical 553 lb-ft. For something that weighs 4,700 pounds, the sprint to 60 MPH takes just 2.8 seconds and, unlocked, top speed is easily over 190 MPH.

New cars are packed with tech, can save you in a pinch, and have increased survivability in accidents throughout the years, but ultimately safety depends on you. No matter what you’re driving, nothing will replace paying attention.
