Kid in Republic of Congo tries to hitch a ride on a private jet by hiding in the jet intake

Apparently this is the second time this kid’s done this.

An equal parts “kids are stupid” and “kids are sadly this desperate” video popped up on Reddit’s /r/WhatTheF*** subreddit earlier today showing a young Congolese kid emerging from the jet intake of a private plane moments before the pilot started up the engines.

This incident took place in Brazzaville, the capitol of the Republic of Congo.

If you need a short refresher where The Republic of Congo is, it’s in Africa (obviously) Gabon, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly known as Zaire.) Brazzaville is right on the border just before the Congo River with the DRC on the other side.

A Redditor has kindly translated the conversation between the soldier and the kid.

Cop to Kid: “Come out, take your backpack.”
Offscreen dude 1 to offscreen dude 2:” Where are you heading?” “France”.
Cops to Kid: “Come over here !!”
Cops: “We’ll question him at the station”
Random dude: “Second time he does this”.

Without a doubt what this kid did was foolish. Thankfully whoever was doing the pre-flight checks was smart enough to notice some kid hiding in the jet intake.

Presumably this kid does not know how jet engines work and the only thing that should be between those turbine blades and the jet intake is air, no need to spell out what happens if there’s something in between.

Even if he stuffed himself in a safer part of the jet like in a piece of luggage, while not impossible, it’d be difficult to survive in the cargo area, especially it’s pressurized.

A small part of me feels sorry for the kid, resorting to stuffing oneself in a jet as a last resort to whatever life’s troubles are.

I sure hope he gets it in his head though that jet intakes are not safe places to hide.
