His fans need to call him out on his reckless driving

Youtuber, Social media influencer, and all around prankster Danny Duncan filmed himself, yet again, pulling off some illegal highway hijinks, this time at triple-digit speeds. A video uploaded to his TikTok recently shows Danny Duncan taking his BMW i8 supercar up to 122 MPH while he swerves in and out of traffic, using the emergency shoulder lane to make his moves.

Check out the video posted up to Reddit below. There’s also a mirror here.

Although traffic isn’t exactly grid locked and this is a relatively straight piece of road with traffic going at “predictable” patterns, it’s 100 percent against the law to use the emergency shoulder under normal circumstances.

Duncan states, “This is legal in 48-states” which is not at all true.

According to one Redditor, this is only legal in 48 states FOR EMERGENCY VEHICLES.

The emergency shoulder, as the name suggests, should be open at all times and used only for emergency purposes. A slowed down ambulance means precious seconds are lost, the difference between life and death sometimes. In addition, the hard shoulder is for cars having mechanical troubles, affording them some space to safely pull over.

Penalties for using the emergency shoulder illegally, at least in California are tied to CVC 21755, the vehicle code police will use when they attach the inevitable $238 fine (before fees and assessments.)

Personally, I have no problems with scofflaws using the hard shoulder, as it doesn’t affect me. They’ve made an impromptu cost benefit analysis and are ready to take the consequences.

But it affects emergency vehicle personnel actually using the shoulder for its intended purposes, mainly how they get stuck behind a**ho*es who slow them down.

Redditor VTwinVaper recalls,

I was transporting a traumatic head injury patient to a level 1 trauma center a few months back; the interstate was basically a standstill parking lot for miles. Tried to use the emergency lane and a motorcycle zoomed around me (almost getting pinned between my ambulance and the concrete barrier) to pass me anyway.

I guess he didn’t want to be behind some idiot with an annoying set of lights and sirens…

There’s also the unfortunate case of someone changing a tire and getting hit from behind.

Redditor Nethervex says,

They get smashed. Happened near me. My job is notorious for the dipshits leaving after shift. One guy got pissed at the traffic that happens literally every day and decided to do this.

He smashed into a guy changing a tire, killed him and injured his family in the car. So moral? Don’t do this, your time is not worth shit. No one will miss an asshole with poor time management but you can kill someone who matters.

You can see Duncan behind a semi, not able to see any potential cars stopped on the shoulder before he pulls out.

Danny Duncan fans need to call him out

Danny Duncan still has his video, where he sits in the passenger seat of his Honda Fit while no one is driving on his TikTok. I blogged about this incident two years ago, assuming he had Honda Safety Sense activated.

Duncan later showed up in the comments and fessed up, admitting he was an idiot and this Fit had no autonomous tech.

I get why people like him. He’s funny, has a relatable “pulling yourself up from your bootstraps” story, and genuinely seems to have a good heart.

That being said, use your influence wisely, Duncan. Do all the dumb pranks and hi-jinks but keep it off the road. You have impressionable fans and it’d be sad to see one use the shoulder, “like Danny Duncan” and hit some poor sap with a flat.
