Acura tech says he’s on pace to hit 1 million miles within three years.

What happens when you religiously drive between New York and Florida? You rack up a lot of miles . According to an Acura dealership technician’s story he shared on Facebook earlier today (July 8, 2021) that’s exactly how this 2014 Acura MDX has over 634,000 miles, on pace to hit 1 million miles within 3-4 years.

Here are the photos he shared below.

This Acura MDX owner lives between upper New York State and Florida, over 1,100 miles between the two states, and frequently drives between each location.

Over seven years, that’s roughly 250 miles a day or 1,800 miles a week, further proof that, once warmed up, highway miles are the gentlest of miles on most engines.

This tech’s been servicing this MDX since day 1 and, from the looks of it, no preventative and scheduled maintenance has been skipped.

A rough list of major items changed include,

  • Oil changes at recommended intervals
  • Automatic transmission fluid drains and refills every 30,000 miles
  • Five timing chains
  • Two sets of struts and springs
  • Valve lash adjustments every 200,000 miles
  • and at least one headlight restoration

As the picture shows, this tech upgraded from 0W-20 to a slightly thicker 0W-30 to take extra bearing wear, common on high-mileage engines.

The only hiccup on this MDX’s amazing journey is a new transmission at 400,000 miles. A modern Honda transmission lasting that long is still an accomplishment given Honda’s track record with automatics (ask me how I know.)

The engine is 100 percent original, the same one Honda factory line workers installed in Lincoln, Alabama.

This year MDX has Acura’s legendary V6 (J35Y5) engine with 290 HP and 267 lb-ft paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It’s largely the same engine in the current Pilot, Ridgeline, Odyssey, and Passport.

Transmission aside, the totality of this 2014 Acura MDX’s life echos a Long-term wrap up from Motor Trend on the same car. The MT reviewer absolutely gushed over how much he enjoyed driving this luxury SUV.

For me, the biggest like is how much of a sleeper in terms of driving enjoyment the MDX is. You don’t really expect much from an SUV in terms of driving excitement, but the MDX delivers in spades.

If you’re looking for a reliable, comfortable highway cruiser that not only eats up miles but delivers on performance, look no further than these newer MDXs.
