If you reserved a Ford Bronco, Ranger or whatever, input your VIN and you might get a notification like this reservation holder.

You get all sorts of notifications on your smartphone, from work e-mails to bothersome social media apps. But imagine getting a notification from your truck telling you someone’s driving it in a different country over 2,000 miles away.

That’s sort of what happened to Ford Maverick Reservation holder and Redditor u/thatusedtobeeasy after he input the VIN Ford provided, confirming his Maverick for production, into Ford’s FordPass App.

According to BeEasy,

Added my VIN months ago to the Ford pass app. Out of the blue I got an alert saying remote features have been activated.

“Then I got one saying remote start will not work soon because the battery is low and my car hasn’t been started in a while.”

BeEasy lives in South Jersey, New Jersey. As his FordPass App map notification shows, his truck popped up near Hermosillo, Mexico, over 2,100 miles away.

If you didn’t already know Hermosillo, Sonora Mexico is home to Ford’s Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly plant, site of North American Ford Bronco Sport and Maverick production.

“I have no idea why it activated,” BeEasy said.

“They did put three miles on it. Probably shuffling around the parking lot. My Ford Maverick ECO has been in transit since the 7th.”

Just like the Ford Bronco, reservation holders are given a four step process informing them of where their specific future Ford is in production.

After you reserve your order, the first notification you get is when your Ford Maverick is scheduled for production.

A VIN number is provided.

Reservation holders then get notified when their Maverick is built and when it ships to their dealership.

It’s worth noting that, although the reservation holder knows when
“their” Ford Maverick arrives, it’s not technically theirs.

A reservation just gives front of the line privileges to negotiate financing terms on that specific Ford Maverick once it arrives.

Remote features are available on a lot of newer Fords and allows an owner to “start/stop, lock/unlock, schedule a start, locate vehicle and vehicle status check on the FordPass App.”

With BeEasy’s FordPass App Remote Features active it sounds like he could technically start his Ford Maverick in Mexico, from the comfort of his home, more than 2,600 miles away.

Then again, I’m sure that Hermosillo factory worker was sure to deactivate those remote features before giving that Maverick the all clear to ship to New Jersey.
