What not to do when a semi is making a right turn.
Presumed South Carolina resident and Redditor /u/LS-CRX shared dashcam footage to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the harebrained moment a driver in North Augusta, SC overtook a semi truck with trailer turning right instead of waiting for it to complete its turn.
It’s worth noting that OP is clearing out his hard drive, and this happened in December 2022.
Check out /u/LS-CRX’s dashcam video below.
This incident happened at the intersection of W Martintown Rd. and North Hills Dr. (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s video shows, there’s a large semi truck pulling an empty trailer taking up two lanes (for good reason) and signaling to turn right.
Because semis need extra space to turn right at this corner, they have to start halfway in the other lane.
You can see a long line of cars behind OP, too, because everyone’s waiting patiently like sane drivers should.
Suddenly, we see an oblivious driver in a Chevrolet Impala sneak past the semi while they begin their turn.
A half a second later, the semi might’ve T-boned the Impala.
I don’t need to spell out what can happen when a 70,000 pound tractor trailer meets the door of a 3,700 pound sedan.
Thankfully, nothing comes of the incident, but for sure, that semi driver was shaking his head.
“Responses are telling, that driver on the right was video gaming to save a handful of seconds,” /u/merv1618 commented.
“I did this once when I was a new driver and didn’t realize what was happening,” AdmrlPoopyPantz added.
“I saw a very large truck yesterday with two bumper stickers, one on each side. The left one said “Passing Side” and the right one said “Sui***e,” /u/GooglePhonicStero replied.
As drivers, we must pay attention at all times, and, when there’s impending danger for other drivers, it’s our duty to, like this Redditor did, lay on our horn to warn others.
