The dashcam owner says a previous T-bone accident left him wary of traffic lights, and this recent incident proved his cautionary attitude right.

Presumed Grapevine, TX resident /u/CoachEd18 shared dashcam footage to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the head shaking moment a driver in a lifted Ford Truck decided to run a red light a good five seconds after it turned red.

Check out /u/CoachEd18’s dashcam footage for yourself below.

[OC] Running a light 5 seconds after it had already turned red…
byu/CoachEd18 inIdiotsInCars

The incident happened in Grapevine at the intersection of TX-114 (AKA Texan Trail) and E Wall St (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As mentioned, unfortunately, OP has previous experience that would lead him to be extra cautious.

“I got T-boned 2 years ago by a car running a red light. Ever since then I don’t trust traffic lights anymore, I always check for potential cars running lights.”

As his video shows, he immediately doesn’t head out into the intersection once he has a green light.

He waits a good four seconds before inching forward.

His cautionary habit unfortunately proved right because just as he drove forward, a driver in a lifted black F-Series drove past him five seconds after their light turned red.

When I was counting, it was closer to six seconds.

“Every other day there are cars like the silver SUV and the white car who just miss the light, but I’m not in any danger. Today is the first time I feel like if I had not checked and just trusted the light, I would have been t-boned. A**H*** ran the light a whole 5 seconds after it had turned red.”

In Tarrant County, running a red light is punishable by a $232 fine before all the fees are tacked on and, according to My Improv, there may be points, too.

“Texas, big truck… guaranteed a**h***,” /u/illseeyouinthefog commented.

“Gotta save those two minutes,” /u/ballstein added.

“Things I learned living in San Antonio… you never go when a light turns green always wait at least 2 “Mississippi’s” … stop means slow to observe police,” /u/flip63hole_ replied.

While you can be overly cautious behind the wheel to a fault, waiting a beat or two before going on green doesn’t arguably fall under that category.

In this case, waiting a moment saved him from getting into a potentially disastrous accident…again.
