The wrong way driver just about made it, but his luck ran out.
Presumed Memphis resident and Redditor /u/jcraig3k’s got an insurance headache on his hands after an impatient driver in a Mercedes ruined his day.
/u/craig3k posted dashcam footage to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the hare brained moment a driver decided to go the wrong way under the Josephine Underpass and drove straight into the front bumper of OP.

The accident happened at one of the entrance’s to the Josephine Underpass on the 2700 Block of Southern Ave (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he makes a right turn into the underpass towards Waverly Ave.
It’s a blind left turn, but it’s supposed to be no concern because it’s a one way street.
All of a sudden, a driver in a 2008-2009 Infiniti M35X headed the wrong way slams into the front of OP, immediately hits reverse, and guns it out of there.
It’s a hit-and-run.
As to why this doofus took a chance,
“(Apparently) there was a big line of cars waiting to get under there because of a train or something closer to Highland. This person was a supposedly not keen on waiting.”
“Thankfully, he slammed his brakes, so the damage wasn’t as bad as the hit made it feel like. Fingers crossed it’s all repairable.”
“Kinda impressed he reversed straight that far and that quickly without rubbing a curb or anything,” /u/Mundtster commented.
“Wow, this checked so many boxes. Beat up Infiniti with no license plates? Heavily tinted windows? Doing dumb shit while driving? Hit-and-run? You’ll find them all over the U.S,” /u/IceCubez189 replied.
You can take all the precautions as a defensive driver and still end up in situations like this.
