An engineer will likely have to go out onto the 62 to inspect the damage to the overpass.

Presumed Minneapolis resident and Redditor /u/YigottaMakeAUserName submitted her husband’s smartphone footage to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the harebrained moment a driver in a boom crane truck on Highway 62 managed to smack the top of an overpass as they drove under it.

Check out the smartphone footage for yourself below.

[OC] Saw this coming and had to record it

The incident happened on MN-62 in Minneapolis, MN under the Penn Ave S overpass just before the Xerxes Ave exit (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As /u/YiGootaMakeAUserName’s husband’s smartphone footage shows, he’s driving in the fast lane of MN-62.

Prior to this, OP’s husband was fully aware that this boom truck crane would eventually hit something.

“I asked him why he didn’t honk, he said he honked earlier on several times and the guy just kept driving. He started recording as soon as he realized he was actually going to hit it.”

Just as her husband predicted, the top of the foldable boom crane, which probably normally lowers and folds out of the way, smacks the top of the overpass so violently that it sends shockwaves through the truck.

You can visibly see the truck shake up and down as a result.

Since the crane operates on hydraulics, the crane retracts, which is probably a good thing as, without retracting, it would’ve probably damaged the overpass even more and, who knows, might’ve tipped the truck, too.

Conveniently enough, the owner of the truck’s number is plastered on the back, (612) 825-TUBS.

The truck is owned by Tubs Inc, a demolition tub rental service based out of the Twin Cities area.

According to the Department of Transportation, urban freeways are normally at least 14″ high.

That boom, in its normal, unfolded state, should’ve cleared that underpass easily.

“I feel bad for the DOT person who has to now come out there to analyze the damage in the bad weather and have to freeze their butt off because of this idiot,” /u/woundedbearheair commented.

“Imagine being in that truck, fully unaware. That would be the scariest fu**ing thing, the entire truck would have shaken so violently. And then the realization sets in of what you’ve just done. Wish I could see vid of the inside of that truck,” /u/DeeTeeOhBee commented.

“Ope, just gonna get right under you,” /u/Shartticus hilariously commented, mimicking the classic Midwest response.

So, if you’re the owner of Tubs Inc in the Twin Cities area and are wondering why one of your boom cranes is a bit wonky, here you go.
