This dashcam owner reports he’d been goaded on to drive faster as he avoided driving too fast in this pedestrian heavy area.

Presumed Pennsylvania resident and Redditor /u/RamJet151 shared head shaking dashcam footage to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the harebrained moment a driver in a school van turns left by first driving on the wrong side of the road to overtake the cars in front of them, just barely avoiding hitting a pedestrian in the process.

Check out the video below.

[OC] Impatient school van driver

This incident happened at the intersection of Schenley Drive and Roberto & Vera Clemente Dr. in Pittsburgh, PA (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

This particular part of Pittsburgh is smack-dab in the middle of Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh.

There’s a lot of people walking around so, logically, drivers should make their way through here with care.

As OP recalls, he was driving carefully through this part of Pittsburgh, making sure not to hit any pedestrians.

Him going slow did not sit well with one driver in particular.

“(The driver in a white school van) He was honking at me for about 5 minutes on this road through the heavy pedestrian bit of the university. It’s not like I was 100% not an instigator before this bit of the clip, but I wasn’t doing anything egregious outside of being extra vigilant for pedestrians and stopping for them and not accelerating at Mach 2,” OP comments.

OP begins to make a left turn, but slows, as any driver should, for a pedestrian crossing the street.

Apparently, that was one too many yields for the driver in the school van as we see him overtake on the left (driving over a double solid yellow) and blowing through the crosswalk, barely avoiding hitting the pedestrian.

An impatient van driver cuts in front of the car in front of them while turning left, barely avoiding hitting a pedestrian in the process.

OP reports that he did file a complaint with the local police.

“I tried to see a school name or number when I was next to him at the next light, but didn’t see anything. I made a police report when I got home with the license plate. Will anything happen, probably not, but I’ll hope.”

“Better late to school than early to the emergency room. BTW, someone should remind people: The school zone speed limit applies even *after* you drop off your own kids,” /u/TheSafetyInspector commented.

“That’s a single rear wheel/aftermarket raised roof setup too. The most rollover-prone form of passenger transportation this side of a Reliant 3-wheeler driven by Jeremy Clarkson,” /u/nlpnt expertly pointed out.

“I see Otto is still holding down a job,” /u/TopChuck humorously added, a reference to The Simpsons.

Most replying to OP agreed a van driver who drives as recklessly as this, an accident isn’t a matter of if, but when.

Drivers should exercise extra care around pedestrians, School Van drivers even more so, given their passengers.

Hopefully police do something about it, or they stop him before he does get into another smooth brained situation like this one.
