North Carolina, like most states, have specific left lane laws or, slower traffic must keep right.
Presumed Tar Heel and Redditor /u/WoodieGutheryGhost posted up a bit of frustrating dashcam footage from Apex, NC from earlier yesterday (June 6, 2024) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the frustrating moment a driver in a Honda Civic tried to pass a pair of cars on U.S. 64 for over a mile.
A left lane camper in the passing lane simply wouldn’t budge.
Check out the dashcam footage below.

The road rage started in Apex, NC on US-64 (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s footage shows, a driver in a metallic gray Honda Civic changes lanes into the passing lane.
In front of OP and the Civic is a Toyota Venza and Toyota Celica driving next to each other.
For over a mile (1.1 to be exact) both the Venza and Celica do not accelerate and instead maintain their positions, effectively blocking the Civic from passing.
The Civic resorts to road rage, at several moments tailgating the Toyota Venza.
While the driver in the teal Celica had no obligation to let the Civic driver by, if I were in that situation and I had the power to defuse the situation by speeding up or slowing down to let the Civic driver by, I would.
In retaliation and when the Civic driver gets an opening, he pulls in front of the Venza and gives the Venza driver a taste of their own medicine, and that’s where the video ends.
According to Thompson Law, North Carolina does have a left lane law.
“In accordance with the North Carolina General Statutes § 20-146, drivers in North Carolina are required to drive on the right half of the roadway, except when overtaking another vehicle, preparing for a left turn, or when the right half is closed due to construction or other circumstances. Violators face fines of $25, or up to $100 if House Bill 784 passes.”
“I get being frustrated when two people are going the same speed next to each other, but that’s freaking nuts,” /u/SadeTheRuiner commented.
“Civic went overboard but the Venza was being an absolute d***head camping in the left lane and not allowing anyone to pass. You’re not a cop, get the f*** out of the way,” /u/IncarceratedScarface added.
“Not endorsing the Civic, but I understand its frustration. But the Civic is throwing tandem like a kid with 1 tons of steel, not cool,” /u/Chlronald threw in his .02
Left lane laws are pretty clear, if you’re not actively passing another vehicle, move into another lane.
By camping in the left lane, going the speed limit, you’re actually wrong and could be cited by a police officer.
If you do this, don’t.
Do better.
