It appears both cars were driving way too fast, chasing each other on this busy, Bay Area street.
Presumed Bay Area resident and Redditor /u/BabelFishofLamuella shared head-shaking dashcam footage from Hayward, CA from earlier this month ( June 26,2024) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver in a Ford F-150 locking up their brakes trying to slow down fast enough to avoid hitting cars stopped at the next intersection.
Check out his video below.

As mentioned, the incident occurred on Foothill Blvd just before the intersection with Hazel Ave (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s video shows, he’s driving in the middle lane of this three-lane Hayward. St.
As he slows at the intersection, a driver in a BMW comes flying by him at what looks like 50 MPH before coming to a rapid stop (it’s a 35 MPH speed limit here.)
A driver in a black Ford F-150 Harley Davidson edition is following close behind the BMW and he too slams on his brakes.
Probably weighing half as much with twice the braking power, the BMW slows with no problem.
Such is not the case with the Ford.
The F-150’s brakes lock up on all four wheels, causing the Ford to spin a complete 180 degrees before coming to a stop.
Had the roads been even slightly damp, he would’ve slammed into those stopped cars.
Embarrassed and with his tail between his legs, the F-150 driver turns the right way around and slots behind waiting traffic, waiting for his light to turn green.
“That seemed incredibly dramatic,”/u/Prestigious_Tear_576 commented.
“I love how so many of the people who floor it to a red light, tend to be the same type of person that takes three seconds to realize the light has turned green,” /u/MONSTERBEARMAN replied.
“Bet the sound scared the crap out of the people in that car. Also, bet the truck driver didn’t learn s***,” /u/Kougar added.
Why the BMW and Ford drivers were cutting it up like they were on a Wednesday morning on a busy Hayward street, your guess is as good as mine.
It looked like a case of one-upping each other.
Regardless, speeding like that is never worth the risk.
It could’ve ended a lot worse.
Easier said than done, but it’s best to check your ego at the door when you get behind the wheel.
