This newly licensed driver had the presence of mind to equip his car with a dashcam before hitting the road.
Newly minted driver, New Jerseyan, and Redditor /u/False-Farmer6815 shared frustrating dashcam footage from Berkeley Township, NJ from earlier from the end of July (July 27, 2024) showing the unfortunate moment a stop sign running driver T-boned him, nearly going full speed without slowing down.
Check out the dashcam footage showing the accident in HD below.
[OC] Licensed for 12 Days and got T-boned already by stop sign running idiot
byu/False-Farmer6815 inIdiotsInCars
As mentioned, the incident happened in Berkeley Township at the intersection of E Bayview Ave and Sloop Creek Rd. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam footage shows, OP is driving along E Bayview Ave at around 9 P.M. on a Saturday night.
At this point, as the title says, OP had only been behind the wheel all of 12 days.
OP approaches and begins to drive through the intersection with Sloop Creek Rd, not slowing despite a car approaching as he has the right of way with no stop sign.
The driver in the car approaching later admits to OP and the police that he didn’t see OP at first, so, he doesn’t slow as he sails through the stop sign.
It’s a classic T-bone collision.
Thankfully, OP kept his truck under control and could slow down and stop without further incident.
“They (the other driver) stopped and all (it’s all) worked out. My back right tire blew and all passenger side airbags went off. cops said I took the front of his car right off so I assume both cars totaled but he was obviously at fault so I just gotta find a new truck or buy it back from insurance,” OP replied to a comment asking about what happened afterward.
“(There were) no major injuries just a small concussion for me but nothing huge from either side. (The other driver) he told the cops after he was just planning on going through the sign and didn’t see me at first.”
Other commenters praised OP for being a proactive driver.
“Nice job op for getting a dashcam since day one,” /u/A-KindOfMagic commented.
“VERY nice recovery…,” /u/rhasp added.
It’s an unfortunate incident so early in this driver’s career.
How he reacted, handled the situation, and how he seems to be processing the relatively mild accident bodes well for this driver’s future miles behind the wheel.
We can all take a page from /u/False-Farmer6815’s book: dash cam it up, and, if you get into an accident, handle it as cooly, calmly, and collected as possible.
