A Camaro driver in Huntsville revved and launched his car off the line with a cop watching his entire show.

Presumed Bammer and Redditor /u/gerbilminion shared hilarious dashcam footage from earlier this August (Aug 4, 2024) from Huntsville to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing the “big-brained” move from this Camaro driver, revving and launching his car off the line with a cop, unbeknownst to the driver, watching from behind.

Check out the case of convenient cop below.

Most of the incident happened near the Redstone Rd SW and Memorial Pkwy SW intersection in Huntsville (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As you can see at the start of the dashcam footage, you can already see (and hear) our Camaro driving launching hard in the middle of Memorial Pkwy SW, more than likely already speeding while accelerating way too fast.

Then, at the intersection mentioned above, the Camaro driver is goaded on by a driver in a Ford Focus at a turn lane next to him, revving his black smoke-emitting turbocharged four-cylinder.

A Ford Focus driver goads the Camaro driver on, revving his car. And no, that Focus isn’t a diesel, but a gas engine, and it shouldn’t be belching black smoke, at all.

The Camaro driver, unaware of a police officer watching it all play out, launches hard off the line and fishtails a bit, arguably an exhibition of speed.

In Alabama, exhibition of speed is defined as,

“The operation of one or more vehicles from a starting point to an ending point, or over a common selected course, for the purpose of exhibiting the speed or power of the vehicle. (Ala. Code § 13A-11-300.)”

The police officer, his hand forced, follows the Camaro and lights the driver up.

We can hear OP laughing hard.

“Not the worst thing. I mean, I’ve seen plenty of affordable, high horsepower, torquey, rear wheel drive cars lose control in a straight line but this guy was just accelerating rapidly with no one in front of him and having a fun time,” /u/achenx75 commented.

“So the Camaro accelerated too quickly? It isn’t clear that he was driving recklessly, or even speeding. He went from zero to cruising speed in less than 15 seconds,” /u/Foxy-Agent added.

“Relatively harmless fun. Cops need to live a little,” /u/anonymous56 replied.

While what the Camaro did might seem harmless it’s only a matter of time before this bad habit can catch up to a driver.

Speeding off like this means you’re more likely to lose control, especially in low-traction situations.

And, if you likely end up speeding, it’ll take you longer to react and stop should the need arise (like a car exiting a driveway abruptly.

In Alabama, exhibition of speed is subject to a fine of up to $500 and possible jail time.
