A driver of what looks like a medical transport van failed to slow for traffic, not braking at all, causing a multi-car collision on I-394.
Minnesotan and Redditor /u/Josh_Gawain posted shocking footage to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit from Minnetonka on I-394 from earlier this week (Aug 27, 2024) showing a driver in what looks like a medical transport van slamming into the back of slowing traffic causing a multi-car collision.
Check out the dashcam footage below.
Driver wasn’t paying attention to morning traffic

The incident happened on I-394 in Minnetonka just before Exit 1D Ridgedale Dr. and Exit 1C Plymouth Rd. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he’s driving along I-394 in Lane #4.
Traffic begins to slow in the faster lanes.
Suddenly, a driver in what looks like a medical transport van appears in Lane #2 and doesn’t slow, at all, for slowing traffic in front of them.
The white Dodge Caravan slams into a driver in a black Jeep Wrangler at full speed causing the Wrangler to spin 180 degrees into the path of a Range Rover in the Express Lane.
They hit.
The Caravan, damaged, veers left into the path of a driver in a Ford Fusion hitting them who, moments before, had just merged onto I-394.
A passenger in the Caravan can be seen exiting the damaged van, running across I-394, and jumping over the interstate barrier where, according to OP, he fell onto his knees to regain his composure.
“As I passed by, the driver of the vehicle was still in the driver’s seat. The guy that ran was a passenger and I think he either panicked or needed some air because he was just kneeling on the ground just past the guardrails,” OP clarified.
OP gives little details about the accident and doesn’t mention if anyone was seriously injured nor does he give a cause for the accident.
Commenters, however, have their theories.
“Probably was on their cell phone and completely distracted,” /u/Warcraft_Fan hypothesized.
“I have legitimately seen someone driving at dusk on the highway clearly scrolling through TikTok. Like 100 million percent that’s what she was doing,” /u/Deathcommand replied.
“Crazy damage done from 1 dude. His insurance is gonna hate him,” /u/Careless_Oil_2103 added, commenting what everyone was thinking.
I searched if anyone else was reporting on this incident and found none as of this blog post.
It’s unfortunate for those other drivers that they can do everything right, yet still end up in accidents like this.
All we can do is to make sure our vehicles are in good running order, we’re insured properly, are belted in, and are driving defensively, paying attention at all times.
As I’ve said before, a dashcam helps, too, in the case of an unfortunate accident.
