These two drivers illegally tried to drive across and through two sets of double yellow lines, aka a flush median island.

Texan and Redditor /u/ConfidoByBirth shared headshaking dashcam footage to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit from earlier last week (Aug 29, 2024) from Round Rock showing the harebrained moment two drivers tried to drive through and across what’s called a flush median island.

They both collided with each other as a result.

Check out /u/ConfidoByBirth’s dashcam video below.

The collision happened in the 3800 block of County Rd 30 in Round Rock (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam footage shows, cars are stopped and backed up on County Rd 30.

A driver in a silver Ford F-150 tries to turn left from the driveway across two sets of double solid yellow lines.

But, as Corpus Christi Police explain on Facebook below and commenters in that Reddit thread, two sets of double solid yellow lines aren’t meant to be crossed over and should be treated as a solid barrier.

Without a clear view of traffic coming from either direction, the driver in the F-150 can’t see the impatient driver in a white Ram 1500 trying to get to the turn lane 100 meters away (as seen in this overhead shot linked here and posted below.)

The turn lane is 100 meters away.

The Ram 1500 driver rams into the side of the Ford F-150, coming close to totaling both vehicles.

In Texas, failing to obey a traffic control device, like a median, is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than $1 or more than $200.

“What kills me about idiots like that who pull out across multiple lanes is that it never occurred to them to instead turn safely to the right out of the exit and then find a safer way to box around to end up going the way they need to go,” /u/Ganymede_boy logically commented.

“Fascinating to see in the wild the quickness of the airbag deployment,” /u/charliesk9unit observed.

“Aw the trucks kissed ❤️,” /u/lilcorgi humoursly added.

It’s bad enough both drivers disobeyed the flush median island as the traffic control device that it is.

Regardless of the illegality of their harebrained traffic maneuver, both would’ve saved themselves the insurance headache they now face if they confirmed, with their eyes, that traffic beyond them was clear.

That means driving defensively or creeping out and craning your neck to confirm.

But of course, as drivers, we often have to learn the hard way.
