Driver towing utility trailer on I-90 failed to brake enough for slowing, rush hour traffic. Causes accident, wedging himself between a freeway barrier and two vehicles.
Washingtonian and Redditor /u/katmndoo shared dashcam footage from earlier last month (Sept 19, 2024) from I-90 in Spokane to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver in what looks like a Ford F-250 hauling a utility trailer failed to observe slowing, rush hour traffic in front of him, not braking enough, and wedging himself between two vehicles and the I-90 freeway barrier.
Check out /u/katmndoo’s dashcam footage below.
[oc] Idiot didn’t notice rush hour slowdown on I-90.

The incident happened on a stretch of I-90 in Spokane just above S Wall St (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As his dashcam footage shows, he’s driving on I-90 just before 5 PM (rush hour) when traffic predictably begins to slow in front of him.
In his rearview mirror, he observes this driver in a Ford F-250 coming up behind him, not slowing down.
“Saw him coming in the rearview and initially thought “Neah, he’ll slow down…wait, no. Let’s leave lots of room for evasive maneuvers (of which there were almost none).”
The driver eventually slows, but not enough.
He realizes a crash is imminent and steers into the freeway barrier to minimize overall damage.
He eventually gets wedged between a Toyota Camry and Tacoma.
The Camry is 100 percent totaled whereas the Tacoma, I’m not so sure.
You can make out at least two rear passengers in the Camry.
We can see /u/katmndoo immediately pull over to presumably offer assistance and share his dashcam footage.
“Video was offered to the driver of the car. The driver in the truck can fend for himself. I figure at some point all involved will get a copy. I sent them a video of the video playing on the head unit first so they’d have something immediate and sent the actual video later once I scrounged up a card reader.”
The consensus in the comments is this driver was distracted.
“You shouldn’t be driving in the left lane when towing anyway,” /u/kyden pointed out.
“In a truck, hauling a trailer, and absolutely f***ing flying and not paying attention to traffic ahead. Truly an idiot. Bravo! 👏🏾,” /u/Fentanyl_For_Lunch added.
“What a waste. These two people are going to be without cars for probably weeks while they get repaired or maybe even totaled. Then it will be constant phone calls trying to get rental cars, trying to get everyone to give a straight answer about the repairs. I hate dealing with s*** like this and it’s just because this idiot couldn’t be bothered to act like a real driver and pay attention and drive with the flow of traffic,” /u/Spavolka summed it up.
This all could’ve been avoided had that driver been paying attention.
We, however, don’t live in a perfect world.
