A driver in a Tesla Model X was driving, changing lanes too fast for road conditions on 112th Ave SE, and crashed hard as a result.
Washingtonian and Redditor /u/Nismo206808 shared shocking dashcam footage from Bellevue from earlier this November (Nov 6, 2024) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver in a Tesla Model X driving too fast for road conditions on 112th Ave, skidding out of control, and crashing into a wall as a result.
Check out his dashcam footage below. (original Reddit thread found here.)
The crash happened in a 35 MPH zone in the 1800 block of 112th Ave SE in Bellevue (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
In the dashcam footage, we can see /u/Nismo206808 driving along 112th Ave SE.
Suddenly, we see a driver in a Tesla Model X fly by OP, going way too fast considering he was driving on a curve.
“He came flying behind me switching lanes at 80 MPH in a 30 MPH zone.”
The Tesla Model X drives by OP at an angle, presumably in the middle of a lane change, and begins to skid out of control.
The Model X smacks the side of the curb on the left and then ricochets into the wall on the right losing a wheel in the process.
The Model X comes to a stop on the sidewalk pointed the other way.
“I slowed down to see if they were OK. They were moving around and they looked to be OK for other people to check on them.”
To be clear, /u/Nismo206808 did not eventually stop to render aid, but drove on, a fact many other Redditors didn’t like.
“OP just decided it is not his problem and kept driving,” /u/Orioniae commented.
“You know, it’s OK to stop and call for help for an idiot driver. Might even help by giving the responding authorities the footage of what idiot driver was doing before the accident…,” /u/Phillycat81 added.
“If the car flipped over upside down, then I would have got out to help,” OP continued in his comment in his defense.
Although Washington and other states do not have “Duty to render aid” laws for witnesses to an accident, stopping to call 9-1-1 and safely attempting to check on the involved parties is not frowned upon and is arguably the right thing to do.
Regardless, OP implies no one was seriously hurt or injured in the crash.
Thankfully, no one was walking on that sidewalk or was unintentionally roped into the accident.
Despite the inherent handling capabilities of electric vehicles like Teslas, going too fast will increase your chances of getting into a crash exponentially.
Y’all need to slow down!
