A U-Haul Box truck driver makes an insane, multi-lane lane change across the path of a semi so they can make their exit.
Semi-truck driver and Redditor /u/NaturalFlan5360 shared insane dashcam footage from I-90 in Seattle from earlier this year (Aug 29, 2024) showing a driver in a U-Haul box truck making the hare-brained, lest second decision to make a multi-lane change across three lanes less than 50 yards from their exit with no regard for OP in his semi, barrelling towards him.
Check out his dashcam footage below.
Sure, come right on over! [OC]

The incident happened on I-90 in Seattle just before Exit 3 onto Rainier Ave S (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he’s in a semi in the right-most lane.
To his left, he can see a Tesla suddenly brake, prompted by the U-Haul box truck signaling to change lanes.
The U-Haul box truck changes lanes not once, or twice, but three times, right across the path of OP.
“Yeah, I always stay as far away as possible. I thought I was safe 3 lanes away… I was wrong,” /u/NaturalFlan5360 commented.
I measured on Google Maps, and the distance from where the U-Hauler made their lane change to the beginning of the gore point at the exit was 120 feet, less than 50 yards.
The box truck comes within feet of colliding with OP.
“Yeah, this truck was new for me at the time, and muscle memory took my hand to where I’m used to the horn pull cord being on my other truck/u/NaturalFlan5360 replied to a comment asking why he didn’t honk.
“To be honest, though they were sending it no matter what so it was probably better not to honk until they were fully out of the way. The last thing I needed was for the horn to spook them and have them slam on their brakes,”
In Seattle, improper lane changes like this are categorized as a serious traffic offense, subject to a fine of up to $250.
“Whew, that was close! They almost missed their exit,” /u/StackThePads33 sarcastically commented.
“Yep, this dude just merged onto I-90 East from I-5 south and didn’t plan ahead for that exit. I see that every time I take that route,” local /u/Back-Bright added.
The sane thing to do would’ve been to take the next exit, make a left, and hop back onto I-90.
According to the bird’s eye view of Google Maps, the next exit is across Lake Washington, 2 3/4 miles away.
Regardless of how long the next exit is, the consequences of unnecessary risks like this are never worth the time savings.
