Driver on Central Ave ignores red arrow and gets T-boned by an ART bus.

Albuquerquean and Redditor /u/ScuffedA7IVphotog shared shocking smartphone footage, filmed as he rode an Albuquerque Rapid Transit Bus on Central Ave showing a driver in a Toyota Camry ignoring a red arrow, turning in front of an ART bus, and getting T-boned.

Check out /u/ScuffedA7IVphotog’s smartphone footage below with the original thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of Central Ave and Stanford Dr (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As his smartphone footage shows, OP is standing, riding on this ART bus on Central Ave.

The ART Bus has a dedicated bus lane that runs along the center of the road.

As they approach the aforementioned intersection, a driver in a blue Toyota Camry suddenly turns left against a red arrow, and their approaching ART bus, despite a sign telling them to turn left only on a green arrow.

A sign telling left turners to only go on a green arrow.

The ART Bus T-bones the Camry driver, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

Passengers can be heard exclaiming in surprise on the ART Bus.

In New Mexico, red light runners of this nature resulting in an accident with significant damage might be cited as reckless driving, both first-time and multiple-time offenders are subject to a fine and/or jail time, and at least four points on their record.

“A red arrow, a raised curb, a “NO TURN ON RED” sign, and a rapidly approaching bus are all not enough to deter Albuquerque drivers from turning illegally,” /u/rhylte commented.

“I guarantee that everyone on that bus suddenly had an injury that only money could fix,” /u/PD216ohio humorously, but not really, replied to a comment wishing everyone on board was OK.

“All I could hear when she hit that car was all those people in the back singing “I have a cash settlement and I need cash now, call J G Wentworth 877 cash now,” /u/OMGTomBrady added.

Now, that driver most likely suffered significant injuries considering how much force was transferred into his car.

Not to mention the thousands of dollars of taxpayers’ money to be used to fix the damaged bus right.

This accident was easily avoidable.
