A driver on Portland Ave E wasn’t willing to wait a couple of seconds, so they nearly sideswiped a car passing them in the next lane.

Tacoma commuter and Redditor /u/MONSTERBEARMAN shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier last week (Dec 2, 2024) from Portland Ave E showing a driver recklessly changing lanes, almost forcing /u/MONSTERBEARMAN off the road.

Check out /u/MONSTERBEARMAN’s dashcam video below with his original thread linked here.

As mentioned, this happened in the 6100 block of Portland Ave E (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As his dashcam footage shows, OP’s driving on the left lane of this two-lane, two-way street.

Up ahead, two cars are stopped as one car attempts to turn left.

Suddenly, a driver in a white Chevrolet Cobalt approaches the pair of cars and, instead of slowing, changes lanes directly next to OP, almost running OP off the road.

It’s so abrupt that OP has to break to avoid getting hit.

“If I hadn’t slammed on my brakes there 100% would have been an accident.”

The aggressive lane changer almost rear-ends the car waiting for the left turner, too.

The Cobalt driver shows no remorse (not even a wave) and speeds off.

“They probably sped up to 60 to get away. It is a 35mph speed limit. The car they almost rear-ended sped after them and was still screaming at them when we caught up at the next red light.”

Their license plate reads CJM4378.

OP confirms despite how close vehicles got, no one touched and got into an accident.

“You were obviously slowing him down from making his meth buy,” /u/Free_RAZOR humorously commented.

“East Portland Ave. I avoid that area like the plague if I can there are too many uninsured drivers over there,” local /u/catman_in_the_pnw added.

“The person in the white Chevy Cavalier (I assume) is an idiot. I don’t think he/she used common sense in actually checking to make sure the lane was clear before merging. No wonder he/she drives a cavalier (not that there’s anything wrong with that,” /u/NoSir3090 replied.

In Washington, unsafe lane changes like this may be subject to a fine of up to $250.
