What a waste of a Heritage Edition Nissan 370Z.

SoCal resident and Redditor /u/GoLoveYourselfLA shared all-to-predictable dashcam footage from Long Beach from earlier last weekend (Dec 28, 2024) showing the aftermath of an impromptu PCH street race between a driver in a yellow Nissan 370Z and what was probably a rental Chevrolet Camaro.

As mentioned, the incident happened along the 2000 Block of the Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam footage shows, both cars are lined up alongside each other before the intersection with Cherry Ave.

Although blurry, the subsequent dashcam footage shows the driver in the Camaro chasing after the driver in the Nissan 370Z.

Two minutes later, we see the inevitable outcome of what one Redditor called “tom-foolery.”

Next to the Sea Rock Inn, we can see our yellow 370Z with a completely wrecked front end.

However fast they were going one of them didn’t stop in time.

“A Camaro and a yellow Z engaging in tom-foolery?! Shocking. I’ll bet bro will be explaining why it wasn’t his fault to everyone gathered around the keg,” /u/Danny2Sick commented.

“They were late to the family bbq after stealing too many DVD players,” said /u/BertieHiggins, referencing The Fast and the Furious (if you didn’t already know.)

“You should report them to the police as street racing. if this gets back to their insurance company it might void their insurance,” /u/Polite2Candian2 suggested.

California takes street racing like this seriously.

Accoding to a blog from Robert M Helfend,

“In most cases, street racing in California is a misdemeanor. It could carry penalties of:

  1. “A county jail sentence between 24 hours and 90 days.”
  2. “A fine between $355 and $1,000.”
  3. “40 hours of community service.”
  4. “Suspension of your driver’s license for a time period between 90 days and 6 months.”
  5. “Impoundment of your vehicle for up to 30 days.”

Thankfully, it sounds like no one was seriously hurt or injured.

But all too often, news making headlines about street racing doesn’t end as fortunately.
