Dad teaches son that being nice at a two-way stop when you don’t have the right of way can have legal consequences.

Dad, part-time driving instructor to his son, and Redditor /u/ImpulseBimmer shared dashcam footage from this Granite Falls intersection from earlier last week (Feb 18, 2025) explaining to his son why they stood their ground at this two-way stop and refused to let another vehicle with the right of way go first.

Check out the valuable lesson taught from their dashcam video embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the intersection of W Galena St. and S Granite Ave (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As this POV from S Granite Ave shows, this direction of travel has the right of way while cross traffic has a stop sign.

OP approaches the intersection on Galena St and comes to a stop.

A vehicle with the right of way also gets to the intersection on Granite and, without a stop sign, comes to a stop, too.

They presumably thought this was a four-way.

“Move, you don’t have a stop sign,” OP yells at the other driver as his son is behind the wheel.

“Some people are stubborn. You do not go, because if she suddenly changes her mind you’re at fault because you have the stop sign,” OP further clarifies and explains to his son.

Yup, Dad is 100 percent right in this situation.

Traffic with the stop sign must come to a complete stop and proceed only when cross traffic has cleared.

“Good job! There was a post here a few days ago where I got downvoted for suggesting that OP ignore being waived through by the person with ROW. Be predictable, not polite,” /u/Pope_Dwayne_Johnson commented.

“Good job teaching your kid properly. Anyone advocating taking the right of way is inviting a collision, and you’d be at fault,” /u/krahr91 added.

“I hate when people do this, you aren’t being nice. You’re being dangerous,” /u/Penelokk bluntly and correctly put it.

Often what we think of as being nice is increasing the chances of a collision, turning what you thought was going to be a spreading happiness into an insurance nightmare.
