This attentive dashcam owner in Charlotte was able to brake in time, narrowly avoiding an idiot failing to yield.
Charlotte commuter and Redditor /u/foreverdonut shared headshaking dashcam footage from Yorkshire, Charlotte from earlier last week (Feb 18, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an idiot in their mid-’00s Corolla turning right on red onto S Tyron St. without yielding properly to traffic with the right of way.
Check out their imbecile move from OP’s dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of Carowinds Blvd and S Tyron St. in Charlotte (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he’s driving in the right-most lane on Tyron St.
As he approaches the aforementioned intersection, he slows as vehicles, including a semi, are making a right on red, legal in North Carolina, but you must yield (of course) and come to a complete stop before proceeding.
Halfway into the intersection, a driver in a Corolla makes a right on red in the worst way possible, without slowing and not yielding, either.
OP slams on his brakes from around 45 MPH to about 20 MPH and narrowly avoids T-boning the Corolla.
Not only did he honk but the vehicle behind him did, too.
“It was the truck behind me honking as well,” OP clarified.
Thankfully, he was paying attention and didn’t collide with the incompetent driver.
His vehicle, the vehicle behind him, and the Corolla all make it out unscathed.
If he’d arrived at that intersection a half second later, this could’ve ended up a lot differently, and not for the better.
“Why do some drivers do that? Committing to being 100% in the wrong? It’s extremely frustrating,” /u/AdDear1590 commented.
“I was once in an Uber where the driver very clearly had no depth perception and no real compensation for it either. I’m thinking licensing requirements should be a little more stringent,” /u/MagnaArma added.
“There was barely enough space for the class 8 truck to turn, let alone the idiot in the car,” /u/Pope_Dwayne_Johnson pointed out.
Not coming to a stop and yielding on a right on red is essentially running a red light.
