Los Angeleno commuter attributes dashcam for potentially keeping him out of legal trouble.

Porter Ranch commuter and Redditor /u/No_Mail_3862 shared concerning dashcam footage from earlier last week (Feb 20, 2025) to the /r/MildlyBadDrivers subreddit showing a disturbed driver in a Mercedes resort to extreme road rage after supposedly being normally passed by OP a few miles back.

Check out the moments this road rager brake-checked OP multiple times in quick succession embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened in Porter Ranch, Los Angeles along the 10000 and 110000 block of Tampa Ave before the 118 Freeway (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam footage shows, OP is driving in the left lane of Tampa Ave on his way home from work.

In the comments, OP clarifies that, a few miles prior, he passed a driver in a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E350 (confirmed via BAR Smog history) who was going too slow.

“What I did to this guy was pass him normally. The guy was going slow in the left lane a few miles back, so I passed him like any other driver. I wasn’t rude to him, I made sure I left plenty of space and was driving at a reasonable speed, never cut him off, swerved lanes, or anything like that.”

For some reason, this Mercedes driver takes offense at being passed and exacts his revenge on OP by, as shown, brake-checking him between 3-4 times in short order.

As the title of his thread suggests, if he accidentally rear-ended this brake-checker, without video evidence, it would be a case of he-said-she-said with most, if not all the fault likely falling on OP.

Thankfully, nothing comes of this road rage and, if anything did, he has it all on dashcam.

“I don’t care how late it’s going to make me, I’m getting into the lane to furthest right and staying away from that car,” /u/Trini1113 commented.

OP says he needed to be in the left lane to get home. Honestly, this suggestion is what most experts agree to do in road rage situations, avoid them entirely if possible.

“What a loser. I have to crash my car in hopes of getting some cash. I’m glad people have dash cams now.,” /u/Sea_Volume_3042 added.

“The driver of the white car made a mistake, he picked on a driver that’s not a tailgater. When he pulled in front of the cam car the cam car backed off,” /u/Ronnie847 replied.

If observed by a police officer, this is textbook reckless driving.

Reckless Driving is defined as, “…willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property” – CVC 23103

California takes reckless driving seriously with violators slapped with a misdemeanor offense with fines up to $1,000 and 90 days in jail.
