This driver tried to make a multi-lane merge across double solid white lines, almost side-swiping this dashcam owner.
Hillsboro commuter and Redditor /u/RGold220 shared head-shaking dashcam footage from earlier this week (March 3, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an idiot driver attempting to make a multi-lane change merge onto this US-26 on-ramp, and it was all caught on dashcam.
Check out OP’s dashcam video below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened in Hillsboro on NE Cornelius Pass Rd as both vehicles attempted to enter US-26 West towards Seaside (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam footage shows, OP makes a right from Wagon Dr. onto 12,7 following a white Subaru Forester.
OP then makes his way toward the US-26 onramp.
The Forester changes lanes and opts to stay on Cornelius Pass Rd and even changes lanes into the middle lane.
As OP enters the Highway 26 onramp, that same Forester suddenly decides they want to re-route onto the 26 and proceeds to change multiple lanes, from the middle lane, across a set of white solid lines, directly into the path of OP.
OP makes quick use of his horn and does his best to dodge the idiot driver.
Thankfully, as his title says, the idiot *almost* got him, but ultimately doesn’t by what looks like less than two feet.
Realizing their mistake, the driver in the Forester retreats back onto the 127, and OP safely completes his merge.
An appropriate expletive can be heard muttered.
“Absolutely shocked the white car didn’t take the illegal right after the island,” /u/wr321654 commented.
“I don’t understand this type of driver. Like, is it really worth risking your life and others over missing a turn?” /u/joberticious wondered.
“I would have lost it if he completed the cutting off.,” /u/DennisfromHawaii added.
An unsafe lane change like this in Oregon is classified as a Class D traffic violation, subject to a base fine of at least $65 with a maximum $500 penalty depending on the circumstances.
