An impatient and clueless driver made their exit across a hatched gore point right behind a parked cop.
Atlanta commuter and Redditor /u/DeadMoneyDrew shared hilarious instant karma dashcam footage from I-85 from earlier last weekend (Mar 30, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver make a last minute lane change into a painted island, where cars are restricted to drive, in full view of an Atlanta cop just watching his hare brained move.
Check out OP’s dashcam video below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened on I-85 at Exit 247, which splits between 20 East towards Augusta and 20 West towards Birmingham (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he’s exiting off I-85 at the aforementioned exit.
Unbeknownst to some drivers, there’s a Georgia State Patrol Vehicle with an officer inside parked at the end of the gore point, that section between the exit and the interstate where cars are not supposed to drive through.
A driver in what looks like a BMW SUV decides they’d rather squeeze in through the gore point instead of taking the next exit, which, according to Google Maps, was just a little over 1/4 mile away.
Seeing this all play out behind them, the GSP officer puts on his blues and tunes and follows the BMW driver to cite him accordingly.
“Haha. Stupid a** f***ing idiot. Doofus hehehe,” OP chuckles to himself seeing it all go down.
“I’ve never understood the mindset of people who panic when they’re about to miss an exit. Just take the next one for goodness sake! I take this exit four or five times a week and I swear I see crap like this close to half the time,” OP commented.
“And then you have this idiot who pulled the illegal exit right in front of a plainly visible Georgia State Patrol vehicle. Instant karma!”
According to Georgia Criminal Lawyer.com,
“A conviction for driving in the gore carries fines up to $1,000 with the possibility of points being added to your driving record. Points on your license can result in higher insurance premiums or even cause you to be dropped by your insurance provider if you already have points on your license.”
“Just realized that some people don’t think this is illegal. Or they think they are special enough to get away with it,” /u/OK_Commision9026 commented.
“Mannnn, I swear every time I take this exit I see someone doing that exact same thing,” /u/upperdecision508 added.
Contrary to popular belief, this move is illegal in pretty much all US states.
If you’re in the habit of doing this, look forward to fines and points on your driving record.
Hell that’s everyday especially 75, 85 split south
