This lazy driver put in more effort road-raging than changing lanes correctly.

NorCal commuter and Redditor /u/Tiberius_James shared head-shaking dashcam footage from I-680 earlier in March (Mar 19, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit, showing a driver in a Toyota 4Runner making the laziest, no-look lane changes, one after the other.

When called out for their sloppy and dangerous driving, the idiot driver resorted to road rage in retaliation.

Check out OP’s dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

[OC] I had the nerve to shake my head…and he took that personally.

The incident happened on I-680 near and at the North 242 Interchange and before Exit 1 (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As OP’s dashcam footage shows, he’s driving in Lane #4 of I-680.

In front of him in Lane #3 is a silver Toyota 4Runner that does the laziest lane changes with the slightest amount of signaling, starting from the fast lane.

Slowly, the 4Runner drifts across I-680 and even in front of OP before ending up in the far right lane of the 242 exit/interchange.

OP shakes his head, at which point the driver, assumed to be not paying attention, sees.

Taking it personally, the 4Runner resorts to some kind of silly road rage, drifting in front of OP, again, threatening a collision or brake check, perhaps.

The coup de grace was a middle finger out the driver’s window.

“I just bought this car in January,” OP replied to a comment, implying that OP could’ve resorted to a pit maneuver. “It’s not gonna stand a chance against a 4Runner, even if I was going to PIT someone.

“Funny how he barely looks in the mirror before changing lanes but is looking very closely afterward to see your reaction. I had a guy do similar after I applauded his “excellent driving. There was no reason for him to be watching the mirror after the move,” /u/RandomFactoid42 commented.

“I’m sure people like him know they’ve screwed up but for some reason will check to see if anyone dared to react to it, and if they do then they go into some sort of weird ego preservation mode,” OP replied.

In California and most all states, lane changes like this are illegal with violates subject to a base fine of $238 and one point on their record.

Motorists are required to signal their intent to turn or change lanes at least 100 feet before they do so.
