If one double-parker wasn’t bad enough, a driver in a KIA pulls up and blocks the opposing lane of traffic.
Panda Express enjoyer and Redditor /u/YourFriendLoke shared head-shaking dashcam footage from Chicago from the parking lot of the Gateway at Illinois Medical District to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing two double-parkers making an already rain-soaked private parking lot that much more dangerous to maneuver in.
Check out the dual, hare-brained maneuvers play out in the dashcam video and Reddit thread linked below.
[OC] Two double parkers hold me hostage in the Panda Express parking lot
byu/YourFriendLoke inIdiotsInCars
The incident happened in front of a Panda Express at the Gateway at Illinois Medical District parking lot, a shopping center at the corner of S Damen Ave and Old Route 66 (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As OP’s dashcam shows, he’s doing his best to exit this shopping center.
Unfortunately, a driver in a Hyundai Sonata double-parked blocks his way.
In a bid to get around them, he waits for opposing traffic going the other way in the other lane to pass.
At that moment, a driver in a Kia sedan decides to go against opposing traffic to also double park, kitty-corner to the Sonata.
Now, both double-parked cars block all open traffic lanes in this parking lot.
Now, with other cars trying to exit, the driver in the Sonata, realizing the colossal mess he’s contributing to, exits stage right, clearing a path for OP to finally get through.
“Proud of you for not backing up to make space when the double-parker got back in their car. Morons” the top comment from andydh96 reads, commending OP for holding their ground.
“We should bring back public dueling,” /u/RonaldReaganLive hilariously added.
“If I’m ever feeling tired, I can just come watch this video, because it elicited a physical response in me, despite the fact I’m at home on my computer. I don’t know if it’s just that you’re a rational person or you’re aware you’ll get picked up by the mic on the camera, but I’d have had some choice words to say,” /u/Dozzi92 bluntly puts it.
“I was honestly just too dumbfounded by the stupidity I was witnessing to even be mad. Like, how f***ing dumb do you have to be to double park immediately next to an already double-parked car? 😂,” OP responded.
While it’s illegal to double park in a parking lot, since it’s a private parking lot, local police have no jurisdiction.
Doing so, however, leaves you open to getting towed, a right the lot owners always have.
The speed of enforcement, however, makes that an unlikely outcome.
Regardless, parking lots are accident hot spots.
Double parking seems like a good idea until you get into or cause an accident.
