This driver tried to turn left at the light, but realized he wouldn’t be able to pull that off, so he kept going straight, almost causing a catastrophic accident.
San Diegan and Redditor /u/Intraepid shared headshaking dashcam footage from his roommate from earlier this week (Apr 29, 2025) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing an idiot driver trying to make a left turn at an intersection from a far right lane, only to realize their mistake halfway into slowing from 40 MPH to a near stop, causing the OP’s roommate to nearly rear end them.
Check out their dashcam video embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of Scripps Clinic S Drwy (South Driveway?) and N Torrey Pines Rd. (aka County Highway S21.)
As the dashcam footage shows, OP is driving along N. Torrey Pines Rd towards the aforementioned intersection following a black Toyota Camry with license plate 9RIN448.

Suddenly, the Camry driver decides they want to turn left…from the wrong lane, slamming on their brakes to do so.
OP’s roommate just about rear-ended them, but was following from a safe distance and paying attention.
After the code brown moment passed, the Camry driver signaled into the far left lane, hopefully realizing what an idiot they were.
“Must be a really lonely thing being the only person on Earth,” a top comment from /u/foshizi reads.
“Sometimes I pray for audio in these videos,’ /u/ezmo1432 added.
“Drivers around La Jolla/Del Mar are the worst,” local /u/BeardedDocinSD replied.
In California, improper turns net violators a $238 base fine and one point on their driving record.
