While Florida has traffic rules that allow a right turn on red, turners must come to a complete stop to yield first.
Floridian and Redditor /u/SageNorthC*ck shared headshaking dashcam footage to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a driver blowing through this intersection without even showing the slightest bit of slowing, almost causing their own t-bone collision, and it was all caught on dashcam by the would-be victim.
Check out the footage shared and embedded from Reddit below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened at the intersection of SR 207 and SR 321 in front of the University of St. Augustine Health Sciences Campus (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam footage shows, OP gets the green light across the intersection and proceeds forward.
To his right, he can see a driver in a beige Chevrolet Trailblazer approaching to turn.
Assuming (his one mistake) the driver would slow and yield to traffic with the right of way, the driver in the Trailblazer just books it, turning without even slowing in the slightest.
OP slams on his brakes and honks, narrowly avoiding t-boning the idiot driver.
In frustration, OP guns it and distances himself from the bufoon behind the wheel.
Yes, in Florida, you can make a right on red, however, drivers must slow and come to a complete stop before turning.
“Sorry, that s*** (Bad driving) is everywhere,” the top comment from /u/OkieBobbie reads.
“It’s funny how on all the local subs I follow, everyone is convinced they have the worst drivers. It’s such a dumb, myopic trope,” /u/LowAd34006 replied.
“Won’t bother to come to a complete stop, but uses a turn signal. My brain can’t,” /u/FrizzBizz comments, pointing out the conflicting contradiction.
Failure to negotiate a right on red per the Florida DOT will cost violators between $150-$275 before fees.
