This idiot tried to cut across multiple lanes and a gore point to make it onto I-85, only to cause an accident.

Atlanta metro commuter and Redditor /u/LakePir8 shared headshaking dashcam video to the /r/MildlyBadDrivers subreddit from earlier in June (June 6, 2025) showing an absolute buffoon try to brute force their way across multiple lanes to make it back onto I-85 from I-75, only to cause a sideswipe accident, endangering lives of other drivers in the process.

Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened in Atlanta at an I-75/85 interchange, technically on a stretch of GA-401 (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam footage shows, OP is on I-85 and slots into a lane headed for I-75 just before the gore point separating traffic.

Suddenly, we see a driver in a black Toyota Corolla try to make it back onto the 85 from lanes now technically on the 75 across multiple lanes and a gore point, which, obviously, traffic is prohibited from driving through.

We can only imagine that the Corolla driver thought other traffic would simply move out of the way for them, as the Corolla was set on a collision course with a driver in a Mazda crossover.

Although the Mazda driver tries their best to dodge the idiot, the Corolla driver manages to make contact, side-swiping the Corolla.

Realizing his colossal mistake, the Corolla driver has the decency to slow down and stop in the breakdown lane where, presumably, they sorted things out and exchanged information.

Oh, and they missed their “exit,” too, so mission not accomplished.

“Damn. I hope you gave them the video, and I hope she had insurance. I also hope she was cited by police,” the top comment from SMtxom reads, to which OP confirms he e-mailed the police with the footage attached.

“That was wild to watch. What goes through their head when they do outlandish stuff like this?” /u/RohMoneyMoney wondered.

“Jeez it’s not hard to switch even if you miss that split. That’s why there’s always traffic there lol,” /u/TriumphTP pointed out.

To /u/TriumphTP’s point, their GPS would’ve re-routed them easily, as confirmed on Google Maps.

In Georgia, an unsafe lane change like this is subject to a fine of up to $185 before all the fees and three points on your record.
