Signage shows drivers merging onto Ball from Yardley have a stop sign and must stop and yield to traffic with the right-of-way.
Orange County driver and Redditor /u/My-Internet-GF showed headshaking dashcam footage from earlier at the tail end of February (Feb 28, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing a careless driver darting out onto Ball Rd. without yielding properly to traffic passing in front of them.
Check out the near-collision play out in the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.
The incident happened in the 9000 block of Ball Rd., just before the intersection with Yardley St. (Exact location on Google Maps linked here.)
As the dashcam shows, OP is driving westbound down Ball Rd. towards the aforementioned intersection.
Suddenly, 200 feet from Yardley, a driver in a silver Mercedes turns left; however, they’re taking their sweet time and barely make it across by the time OP gets to them.
OP and a driver in a Tundra next to them are forced to brake to avoid t-boning them.
The general rule is to yield to traffic far enough away that you do not force oncoming vehicles to slow down, stop, or change lanes to avoid you, which, judging by the Toyota Tundra’s brake lights, is not the case here.
Thankfully, nothing came of this failure to yield properly.
“Turning left on roads like this sucks. Sometimes, if traffic is heavy enough I’ll just turn right, then pull into the left turn lane, pull into a business, then turn right. It’s a few more steps but it still achieves the left without the dangers. Dude needs to get on the gas if he’s going to pull into traffic,” the top comment from /u/bggranny000 reads.
“Right of way? But I’m turning left!,” /u/Uristlmiknorris humouredly added.
In California, a failure to yield can result in a $100–$250 fine. It usually carries 2 points on your driving record. Points can affect your insurance rates if you accumulate too many.
