A driver at State and N 1650 W fully intended to blast through this yellow to beat a red, that is, until a left turner forced them to brake and run a red light.

Utah County-area driver and Redditor /u/AmEV shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in April (Apr 14, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsinCars subreddit showing a driver with bad habits, fully intending to accelerate through a yellow at this busy intersection, ending up stomping on their brakes to avoid a t-bone, and ending up running a red, instead.

Check out their bad driving habit play out below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The incident happened at the T-intersection of State St. and N 1650 W (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam shows, OP is headed eastbound down State towards the aforementioned intersection.

About 130 feet from N 1650 W, the light up ahead turns yellow, which means slow and prepare to stop.

However, a driver next to OP in the middle lane in a blue Hyundai Santa Fe takes it as their cue to gas it to beat the red.

They would’ve had their way if it wasn’t for a turner headed left into N 1650 W, who, if the Hyundai had continued accelerating, would’ve been t-boned.

The Hyundai is forced to throw out its anchor, emergency braking to avoid a t-bone accident, but not enough braking to stop completely, avoiding an accident but, in the end, running a red.

“Utah, red lights are just suggestions,” the top comment from /u/Al_Tilly_the_Bum reads.

“My b-hole just puckered, and I’m not in either of those cars,” /u/Adda717 added.

“Judging by the brake lights, they knew exactly what they were doing…it wasn’t an oh s**t moment,” /u/RedTruck1989 suggested what the likely situation was.

In Utah, running a red light is typically a traffic infraction with fines that often land around $120–$200 once court fees are included.

It usually adds 50–60 “driver license points” under Utah’s Driver License Division system.

Accumulating too many points can trigger insurance increases or even license suspension if violations stack up over time.
