Dashcam owner shares, “Why I never go right away at this particular Brookline, Mass intersection.

Norfolk County driver and Redditor /u/Pulmonic shared headshaking dashcam footage from earlier in April (Apr 10, 2026) to the /r/IdiotsInCars subreddit showing exactly why, when they come to this particular Brookline intersection, they wait a beat after the green before hitting the gas.

Check out the dashcam footage embedded below with the original Reddit thread linked here.

The dashcam footage was taken at the intersection of South St. and W Roxbury Pkwy (exact location on Google Maps linked here.)

As the dashcam footage shows, OP is headed southbound down South St, about to cross the aforementioned intersection.

Keen eyes will notice, even before OP gets the green light, cross traffic is already facing a red.

This Ford Edge can be seen passing the limit line against a red light, making it a red light runner.

This Ford Edge breezes through a red light, refusing to slow while it had a yellow.

Eventually, they green light to go, but instead of immediatly taking off, they wait two Mississippis before actually going.

It’s a habit he’s learned for good reason, as, shortly after, a driver in a Silver Hyundai Tucson breezes past him running the red light.

Had they gone when it turned green, they would’ve been t-boned, for sure.

“Visibility does look to be pretty crappy at that intersection, but these little crossings around Boston are always a s*** show. That big a** box on the light pole to the left in your video probably makes the light easier to miss, but that just means people should be slowing down more,” one of the top comments from /u/brufleth reads.

“Over the last few years, this has gotten a lot worse, or at least I am noticing it a lot more. Almost every place I go, I wait at green lights for a moment because someone is running the red,” /u/rightinthepopsicle commented before further sharing how a school teacher pumping gas near him died as a result of a red light runner hitting another driver pulling out.

In Brookline, Massachusetts, running a red light falls under state law and typically comes with about a $100 fine. It also adds 2 points to your driving record. Those points can raise your insurance rates and, if you rack up enough, risk a license suspension.

Running red lights is also one of the worse habits drivers can have, dramatically increasing the likelihood they will get into and cause an accident.
